Typical applications
Materials
We manufacture in a range of FDM materials supported by our production equipment and selected for the requirements of your project — including PLA-family materials, PETG, TPU, PVA and ABS, and, where the production setup and application are suitable, materials such as ASA and fibre-filled PLA/PETG. Material suitability and availability are confirmed during production review, considering printer configuration and nozzle compatibility, any enclosure or environment requirements, the filament manufacturer's recommendations, the part geometry and application, sourcing, and successful production validation where required. We do not offer resin/SLA printing.
Our production equipment uses a hardened-steel nozzle (up to 300 °C). Materials it supports include PLA family, PETG, TPU, PVA, ABS, ASA, PLA-CF, PETG-CF — examples of the equipment's capability, not a fixed menu, and confirmed for your part during production review. Multi-material printing supports specific pairings (for example PLA + TPU or PLA + PVA) rather than every possible combination. A future production printer may support additional materials.
Strong, clean finish and great value — a popular choice for most parts, prototypes and décor.
Tougher and more temperature-tolerant; good for functional parts.
UV & weather resistant — suited to outdoor use.
Flexible, rubber-like parts and gaskets.
Carbon-fibre reinforced — stiffer, matte finish.
Carbon-fibre PETG — stiff and durable functional parts.
Need a specific filament?
Layer & Loop Manufacturing can source particular brands, colours and finishes for suitable production projects. Availability is subject to printer compatibility, the material manufacturer's recommendations, the required nozzle and environment, sourcing, geometry/application and production validation.
Manufacturing FAQ
Manufacturing is for repeatable production rather than one-offs — typically around 100+ identical units, any recurring requirement, scheduled or repeat production, specific material sourcing, or jobs needing a sample, extra QA, packaging or fulfilment. Smaller one-off prints, prototypes and everyday small batches are best ordered instantly through our standard service.
Yes. Recurring production can qualify below 100 units — if you need the same part made again and again to a schedule, that's exactly what Manufacturing is for, whatever the batch size. We won't push a genuine recurring project back to one-off ordering.
Yes. We manufacture from production-ready STL or 3MF files that you supply. We check every file before production and can usually repair a non-watertight mesh automatically, but we don't design or model parts.
No. Layer & Loop Manufacturing is a production service, not a design studio — we don't provide CAD, modelling or reverse-engineering. You supply the production-ready file and we manufacture it to that specification.
STL and 3MF. 3MF is preferred for production because it can carry units and settings alongside the geometry.
We're an FDM production service and we don't have a single fixed material — the filament for a run is chosen for the part and its application and confirmed during production review. Our production equipment (hardened-steel nozzle, up to 300 °C) supports a range of FDM materials including PLA-family materials, PETG, TPU, PVA and ABS, and — where the production setup and application are suitable — materials such as ASA and fibre-filled PLA-CF/PETG-CF. These are examples of what the equipment supports, not a closed menu, and a future printer may support more. Multi-material printing supports specific pairings (for example PLA + TPU or PLA + PVA) rather than every combination. Availability of any given material is subject to printer and nozzle compatibility, enclosure/environment needs, the manufacturer's recommendations, geometry/application, sourcing and successful production validation. We do not offer resin/SLA printing.
Often, yes. For suitable production projects we can source particular brands, colours and finishes. Availability is subject to printer compatibility, sourcing and production testing — tell us the brand, product and colour you need and we'll confirm.
Assembly can be considered for some projects on request; it isn't a standard advertised service yet. Tell us what you need and we'll let you know if we can help.
We pack every order carefully for transit as standard. Bespoke or branded packaging can be discussed per project.
We ship completed production to you across the UK, either as one shipment or in agreed batches. Direct-to-customer fulfilment can be discussed for suitable projects.
Not always. Straightforward jobs can proceed without one. Where a sample or first article helps de-risk production, we'll produce one for inspection and your approval before committing to the full run.
Production samples may be available for qualified projects. Depending on the part, a sample may be complimentary, or paid with the eligible charge credited against production, or paid. We confirm which applies before making one — we don't advertise free prints.
Yes. Where a sample is produced, you inspect and approve it before we schedule the full run. Once approved, that configuration becomes the approved production specification we manufacture to.
Yes. Once a production specification is approved, you can request another run without starting over — just tell us the quantity and date. If nothing has changed we use the approved file and settings; any change to the file, material or settings triggers a quick review.
Yes. We can plan recurring or call-off production to agreed quantities and dates, scheduled against our available production capacity. Price agreements have review dates — we don't promise indefinite fixed pricing.
From real production economics — material, machine time, setup, handling, QA, packaging and a margin — recalculated for each quantity so a larger run spreads the fixed costs and lowers the unit price. It's not a flat percentage discount off the instant price. You'll see indicative per-unit and project totals, with the final quote confirmed after review.
It depends on quantity, part size and current capacity. Tell us your quantity and required date and we'll tell you what's realistically achievable rather than over-promise. We don't claim unlimited or industrial-scale capacity.
Only if you explicitly ask us to. By default we delete uploaded files after fulfilment in line with our Privacy Notice. For repeat manufacturing you can authorise us to retain the approved file and specification for a set period so reorders are quick — you can withdraw that consent at any time.
No. A short 15-minute production review can help on complex jobs, but it's never compulsory — straightforward projects can be handled entirely by email.
Yes. Many production projects run start to finish over email — enquiry, estimate, sample approval, quote, production and dispatch — without a call.
Not automatically. We don't represent printed parts as suitable for medical, safety-critical, structural-safety, pressure, mains-electrical, vehicle-safety, food-contact or other regulated applications unless expressly agreed. You remain responsible for validating the design and its suitability for its intended use.
