Layer&LoopStore

Where to find 3D models

Don't have a file yet? Here's where to download or commission one — and how to stay on the right side of the licence.

We print — we don't design

LayerAndLoopStore is a printing service, not a design studio. You supply a print-ready STL or 3MF file and we make it exactly as designed — we don't model, modify or reverse-engineer parts. If you don't have a file yet, the good news is there are millions of ready-made models to download for free, and if you need something bespoke you can have it designed and send us the file.

Where to download ready-made models

These are the biggest, most reputable libraries. Most models are free; some designers charge a small fee.

  • Printables — Prusa's huge free community library, with clear licence info on every model.
  • MakerWorld — Bambu Lab's fast-growing library, lots of print-ready, well-tested models.
  • Thingiverse — The original — enormous back catalogue, especially for practical and household prints.
  • Cults3D — A mix of free and paid designs from independent creators.
  • MyMiniFactory — Curated and test-printed models — strong for tabletop, miniatures and art.
  • Thangs — A search engine across many sites, with clever geometric (shape) search.
  • GrabCAD — Engineering-focused CAD models — handy for mechanical and functional parts.
  • Yeggi — A meta search engine that scours most of the repositories above at once.

Download the STL or 3MF, then drop it on our home page for an instant price.

Need something custom-designed?

If the thing in your head doesn't exist yet, a freelance 3D designer can model it from your sketch, photos or measurements and send you a print-ready file — which you then upload to us. Freelance marketplaces such as Fiverr and Upwork have plenty of 3D-modelling designers, or a local CAD designer can do the same. Once you've got the STL/3MF, we'll take it from there.

Check the licence first (Creative Commons)

Almost every free model comes with a licence set by its designer — usually a Creative Commons one. It's worth a ten-second check before you order, because some licences limit what you're allowed to do:

  • CC0 / Public Domain — do anything, no credit needed.
  • CC BY — free to use, just credit the designer.
  • CC BY-NC (Non-Commercial) — personal use only. Fine to have one printed for yourself; you can't sell the prints.
  • CC BY-SA / BY-ND — extra conditions on sharing or modifying.
  • “Personal use only” / paid commercial licence — some designers sell a separate licence if you want to sell prints.

By placing an order you confirm you have the right to print the file you upload. We can't print copyrighted or trademarked designs you don't have the rights to (branded characters, logos, other people's products), parts for real firearms or other lethal weapons, or anything illegal to make in the UK — see our Terms for the full list. If you're not sure about a model's licence, just ask us.
