How much does 3D printing cost in the UK?

There's no single figure — the cost of a 3D print depends mostly on how much material it uses and how long it takes to print, so a small clip and a large enclosure are priced very differently. The reliable way to know is to price your actual model: on Layer & Loop you upload your STL or 3MF and get an instant, model-specific price calculated from the real material and machine cost of that exact part.

What actually drives the price

• Material used (weight). More plastic means more cost. A dense, chunky part uses far more filament than a small or hollow one.
• Size and volume. Bigger parts use more material and take longer — the two biggest levers on price.
• Machine time. Print time is charged for. Taller parts, fine detail and high infill all add hours.
• Infill and quality. A stronger, denser part or a finer layer height uses more material and time than a light, draft-quality one.
• Supports. Overhangs need support material that's printed and then removed — extra filament, time and finishing.
• Quantity. Repeat copies share the setup, so each additional identical copy costs less than the first.
• Material choice. Standard PLA+ is the baseline; specialist materials (PETG, TPU, carbon-fibre filaments) are priced separately through the custom route.
• Delivery. UK postage is added on top, based on the parcel's size and weight.

The extras, in plain numbers

UK delivery is fully tracked via Royal Mail: Tracked 48 from £2.85 (Royal Mail aims for 2–3 working days after dispatch), or upgrade to Tracked 24 from £3.80 (aims for the next working day). Ordering more than one identical copy earns a further 10% off each additional copy, shown live on the quote card as you change the quantity.

Ways to keep the cost down

• Only ask for the strength you need — a lower infill or draft quality is cheaper for display or fit-check parts.
• Design out heavy solid volume where you can; hollow or lightweight parts cost less.
• Order copies together to share the setup and get the multi-copy discount.
• Keep parts within the 250 × 250 × 250 mm build volume to avoid splitting and joining.
